About Molon Labe
“Molon Labe”, pronounced “MAH-loan LAH-vay”, is the response reportedly given by King Leonidas of Sparta to Xerxes, the Persian ruler intent on invading Greece but confronted by 300 Spartans led by Leonidas at Thermopylae.
Plutarch reported that when Xerxes urged the Spartans to surrender their weapons, Leonidas replied, “Molon labe”. While the literal translation is a bit stilted for English, the concept is communicated just fine in the exchange as depicted in the movie, “The 300″. Xerxes’ emissary demands, “Spartans! Lay down your weapons!” Leonidas responds, “Persians! Come and get them!”
The sentiment has, of late, been adopted by 2nd Amendment advocates in the US as the application of a potential demand for the surrender of weapons owned by citizens is obvious. I chose it as the name of this blog for the same reason applied to any and all rights Americans have. There are too many instances available to illustrate the problem of the government attempting to infringe on many of our rights to continue to ignore. Molon Labe is dedicated to exposing such attempts by government at all levels.
If we, as free men, do not stand up for our rights - then who will. If we meekly surrender them when asked or threatened, we dishonor the sacrifice of the many who came before us and secured those rights for us.
